The area’s premier girls basketball event, the Public vs. Private Challenge, will take place Saturday at McDonogh’s Rollins-Luetkemeyer Athletic Center in Owings Mills.

With several inches of snow projected for the Baltimore region starting Saturday afternoon, 13 of the 25 matches will be played.

Six of this week’s VSN Top 20 will be in action including second-ranked Roland Park Country School taking on two-time defending Class 3A state champion Frederick. Frederick is led by University of Arkansas recruit Makayla Daniels.

Roland Park, led by Division I-bound performers Maria Ferariu (Drexel) and Ja’Niah Henson (Morgan State), has only loss to nation’s No. 1 Bishop McNamara (at the Title IX Classic in the District during the holidays).

Prince George’s County’s New Hope Academy, ranked 14th in the latest USA Today Super 25, takes on VSN’s No. 4 and last season’s Baltimore City Division I champ Poly. No. 8 Mount de Sales, No. 10 South River and 19th-ranked Long Reach will play Saturday.

Eighteen of VSN’s Top 20 were originally scheduled to play Saturday. Tournament director Al Schnell hopes to play the remaining games Jan. 19th and 26th at a different location.
