In last year’s annual Route 40 Challenge between Chapelgate Christian and Glenelg Country School, then-freshman guard Warren Powers hit a shot at the buzzer to lift the visiting Dragons over the Yellow Jackets, 64-63.

On Tuesday, Powers made sure the game wasn’t as close.  The standout sophomore scored a team-high 16 points to power visiting Glenelg to a 71-47 victory.

Junior Isaiah Miles and Caesar Jove-Vives each scored 14 points for the Dragons (1-0).

Chapelgate was led by point guard Nate Frierson’s game-high 17 points, including going 10-for-13 from the charity strip.  

Winfield Taylor scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Chisom Uzosike added seven points and Matt Phillips had eight for the Yellow Jackets (3-1).

Glenelg has won each of the four Route 40 Challenge’s, which began when both teams were in the C Conference.  

The Dragons have sensed moved up to the B Conference look to be one of the favorites this season under first-year head coach Kevin Quinlan.
