Glenelg Country baseball player Doug Miller has announced that he will attend Heidelberg University to further his education and athletic endeavors. Heidelberg is a liberal arts institution with approximately 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students located in Tiffin, Ohio.
Miller is the son of Rob and Diane Miller and plans to begin at the Berg in the fall of 2011, along with joining the baseball team and veteran head coach Matt Palm.
Miller is in the midst of his senior year at Glenelg Country where is a member of the baseball team that competes in the MIAA B Conference. He is a two-time recipient of Glenelg Country Most Outstanding Player Award and is an All-MIAA B Conference performer.
Heidelberg is a member of the 10-team Ohio Athletic Conference in which it is the four-time defending regular season champion and three-time defending tournament title holder. Overall the program has claimed five regular season championships (2003, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010) and four tournament trophies (2004, 2008, 2009, 2010). Along the way the team has emerged as a mainstay in the national rankings, standing as high as second, while making four trips to the NCAA Mideast Regional (2004, 2008, 2009, 2010).
Heidelberg has posted at least 23 wins in each of the last 11 seasons, while eclipsing the 30-win plateau five times and setting the school record for wins at 42 in 2010. Last year Heidelberg won its first Mideast Regional Championship and made an appearance at the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, otherwise referred to as the World Series.
Entering the 2011 season, Heidelberg is ranked first in the nation in the preseason polls released by D3Baseball.com and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
