Glenelg Country won its third game in as many days with a 6-0 victory over visiting Mercy. The Dragons improved to 12-4 overall and clinched the IAAM B Conference Red Division regular season title with a record of 11-1.
Glenelg recorded ten shutouts on the season. The Ellicott City school got the scoring started early when senior attacker Claire McAuliffe tipped in a pass from senior attacker Sam Weinstein just six minutes into the contest.
McAuliffe netted her second goal of the day off a pass from senior midfielder Hailey Hamel with 16:12 in the first half. The Dragons went up 3-0 with just over three minutes left in the half when Weinstein netted her first goal of the game off a hard shot from top by junior attacker Allie Pickens.
McAuliffe earned a hat trick with just 32 seconds before halftime when she tipped in another hard shot by Pickens. McAuliffe scored her final goal of the game, and the teams fifth, off another pass from Weinstein with 14:30 left in the second half.
Weinsten rounded out the scoring putting one past the Mercy goalkeeper after a fast break opportunity. Glenelg outshot Mercy 35-3 and held a 10-2 advantage with offensive penalty corners. Dragons goalkeeper sophomore Sarah Bates made one save to preserve her team’s seventh multi-goal shutout of the season.
Glenelg returns to action next Tuesday when it hosts St. James in non-conference action.
