Cara Woods went 3 for 4 with two RBI and senior catcher Shelby Smith went 3 for 4 and scored twice as No. 6 Glen Burnie defeated No. 18 Severna Park, 10-5, in an Anne Arundel County softball contest. The Gophers scored seven runs in the second, turning a 2-1 deficit into an 8-2 lead as they won their season debut.
Caitlyn Kirby and Stephanie Raw each had an RBI for Glen Burnie (1-0 overall, 1-0 Anne Arundel), which cranked out 13 hits against Severna Park junior pitcher Clare Hofstedt. Paige Briganti and Carly Moore each had two hits for the Falcons (1-1, 0-1 Anne Arundel).
The Gophers will play at South River Monday while Severna Park hosts No. 1 Chesapeake-Anne Arundel in league action.
