Gilman School’s Cyrus Jones (pictured left) has been selected to the U.S. Air Force Junior All-American team, recognizing the top 60 juniors from the past football season.
Jones, 6-foot and 185 pounds, made the second team as a defensive back where he led the Greyhounds, ranked No. 2 in Varsity Sports Network’s Metro Top 20, with five interceptions last fall. He accumulated 1,240 all-purpose yards and scored nine touchdowns.
A consensus All-State pick, Jones holds at least a dozen offers including the University of Alabama, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia Tech. Jones’ father and current Dunbar boys’ basketball coach Diego Jones played for basketball for West Virginia after helping Dunbar to a 29-0 record and mythical national championship in 1991-92.
