Senior star scores five as Greyhounds defeat Delaware’s Cape Henlopen for first victory of 2021
The MIAA A Conference lacrosse schedule is brutal and Gilman School can validate it by virtue of its 0-2 start to the 2021 season.
On Thursday, however, the Greyhounds took a little respite from the rigors of their conference and played on their home field for the first time this spring, inviting Cape Henlopen (DE) to Roland Park. Led by a huge afternoon from senior attackman Charlie Pope, who netted five goals, Gilman (1-2 overall) got that elusive first win, 14-9.
The Hounds wasted little time establishing their presence as they raced out to a 7-0 first half, before their visitors scored three straight to close within 8-4 at the half. Pope scored four times in the first half and added his fifth in the fourth.
Sophomore Oscar Woloson scored a hat-trick for the Greyhounds while senior Tucker Hebert added two goals and an assist.
Single goals were added by Jay Wilkerson, Jake Tompkins, Chase Brody and Clayton Bradley, with Wilkerson also handing out an assist.
In the cage, Kyle Morris stopped 12 shots for the Greyhounds. Gabe Best, with two goals and an assist, was the top point scorer for Cape Henlopen.
