The Cavaliers, who have proved to be a competitive bunch in the early going this year, won the final face-off and were able squeeze off two shots, but could not find the equalizer.
Spalding took a 6-4 lead after three quarters, but Gilman rallied by outscoring the Cavs 4-1 in the final quarter.

Gilman won the ground ball battle, 20-16, and outshot the Cavs 36-22.
Gilman (6-3 overall, 1-2 MIAA A) desperately needed this win after losing its first two league contests. Spalding (7-5 overall) fell to 2-3 in the conference.
