Glenelg Country and Severn also win big in MIAA B baseball
Gerstell Academy was outhit 9-5 by visiting Indian Creek, in a key MIAA B Conference baseball game on Thursday afternoon. The host Falcons, however, took advantage of five Eagle errors to score a 4-3 walk-off victory, in eight innings.
Jerry Torrence scored the winning run after leading off the eighth with a double and moving to third on a sac bunt by Landon Bell, before scoring on an error. The Falcons trailed 3-1 entering the bottom the seventh inning. With two outs Tyler Struck, who had two hits, drove in his second run of the game with a fielder’s choice. After a John Delgado walk to load the bases Ryan Morrison, who had reached on an error, stole home to keep Gerstell alive.
Indian Creek scored the first run on an RBI single by R Handwerger in the top of third inning. Gerstell responded with an RBI single from Struck in the bottom of the innings. The visiting Eagles went back on top with a two-run fifth. Logan Frazier drove in the first run with an RBI bunt single and Anders Limatainen added an RBI double.
With the win, Gerstell remained undefeated at 3-0 over and 2-0 in the B Conference. Indian Creek (4-3 overall) is now 2-1 in league play. Both teams are in the Red Division of the B Conference.
GLENELG COUNTRY 18, FRIENDS 3, 5 INNINGS
Glenelg Country traveled to Friends School, Thursday, and under the threat of storms, the Dragon bats thundered loudly.
The Dragons jumped out with five runs in the top of the first inning and never stopped as they scored in every inning in route to an 18-3 MIAA B Conference victory over the Quakers.
Ten Glenelg Country batters scored a run, eight had hits, and six had more than one RBI. Dylan Melton had two bases loaded triples for six RBI and Dylan Levin had two hits including a triple and three RBI. In addition, Connor Wilson and Trey Miller had two hits and two RBI, Cary Pakulla had two hits, and Brian Hammond and Sebastian Mezzanotte each had a hit and two RBI.
Hammond also pitched five innings for the win giving up only two earned runs on three Friends hits.
Glenelg Country (4-1 overall) is now 3-0 in the league and in first place with the Black Division of the B Conference. Friends is 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the league.
SEVERN 15, ST. VINCENT PALLOTTI 5, 5 INNINGS
Severn scored in all five innings of its MIAA B Conference game with St. Vincent Pallotti, Thursday in Laurel, including six in the third and five in the fifth, to defeat the host Panthers, 15-5, in MIAA B Conference baseball.
Caden Blanck earned his first career win on the mound pitching into the fourth inning and scattering seven hits and five runs. He ultimately gave way to Gavin Schut who worked an 1.2 innings to secure the win.
Offensively, the Admirals used 10 hits and eight more walks. They were led by Matt Fisher, who had three hits and an RBI. Every Severn player reached base at least once.
