Garrison Forest School field hockey coach Traci Davis said last month she didn’t think the Grizzlies top-three preseason rank in several area polls was unwarranted. The Grizzlies had a young, yet talented roster and Davis knew it would be more peaks than valleys this season.
After 1-2 start, Garrison Forest is starting to show why it’s among the elites in the area. The No. 11 Grizzlies traveled over to Northern Parkway and posted a 1-0 decision over No. 2 Bryn Mawr School, in an IAAM A Conference contest.
Megan Rossie’s goal in the 44th minute was the difference for Garrison Forest (8-2-1 overall, 4-0-1 IAAM A), which extended its unbeaten streak to eight. Kendall Kuntz stopped seven saves as the Grizzlies posted their sixth shutout during the unbeaten run.
The victory also avenged last season’s 2-1 double overtime loss to the Mawrtians (8-2, 3-1 IAAM A) in the league finals at Goucher College. Garrison Forest won the crown in 2007 and 2008.
The Grizzlies return to action Oct. 5 with a league match against Severn School. Bryn Mawr heads to ninth-ranked and unbeaten Notre Dame Prep Thursday afternoon.
