It was a good weekend for the Mount St. Joe Gaels at the St. Benedicts Prep’s Caruso Invitational, sending seven wrestlers to the top four podium spots and winning three of the weightclasses.
The seven place-winners allowed the Gaels to comftorably take third place in the tournament won by its hose, St. Benedicts Prep.
Earning tournament titles were 112-pound Stanley Proctor and 215-pound Tyler Tippett, both decisioning their way to respective weightclass crowns, while the 145-pound Brady Massaro dominated his way to his championship.
Massaro’s 17-2 technical fall in the third period placed him in the tournament finals, where he further dominated his opponent to a 13-6 decision for tournament gold.
Protor had a one-on-one with Calvert Hall’s Collin DeMatt, pinning him in 1:28 of the opening periof to advance in the tournament.
Sean Jones and Jimmy Klose also bumped heads with fellow MIAA talent Calvert Hall, jones working a fall over Cardinal Alex Crum at 103, and Klose edging Luke Koski en route to a third-place finish.
Koski would pin in the following round to finish fifth in the weightclass.
Other place-winners for the Gaels included Kevin Johnson (130) and Keither Waddell (285), with Johnson winning 3-1 and 3-2 for a third place finish following a 1-0 loss in the semis, and Waddell working a fall in the tournament before taking fourth.
