No. 2 Mount St. Joseph rolls past Kiski; The Hall’s next
A week off did wonders for Mount St. Joseph’s offense.
The second-ranked Gaels defeated Pennsylvania’s Kiski School, 53-7, in a non-league football game at Pleyvak Field in Irvington. Junior quarterback Billy Atkins threw for 227 yards and 4 touchdowns for Mount St. Joseph (3-1) and senior running back Marlowe Wax rushed for 138 yards and 3 touchdowns on 4 carries.
The Gaels scored the game’s first 39 points, claiming their final non-league match before starting MIAA A Conference play. Mount St. Joseph scored just a touchdown in its previous game against perennial Washington Catholic Athletic Conference stronghold Good Counsel, which claimed a 19-7 win at Pleyvak Field Sept. 7.
Ausar Crawley (4 catches, 54 yards), Dont’e Thornton (2, 76), Semaj Henson (2, 44) and Tyler Wilkins (3, 49) each caught scoring passes from Atkins, who completed 10 of 12 passes. Wax, who’s committed to Syracuse University, scored on runs of 32, 8 and 91 yards.
Friday evening, Mount St. Joseph travels to Towson for its MIAA A opener against third-ranked Calvert Hall College at Russo Stadium. The Gaels defeated Calvert Hall, 21-7, last season.
