Friends took an early five run lead and earned a 7-4 victory over Dunbar in a first round match-up of the inaugural President’s Cup tournament on Saturday.

The Quakers scored three runs in the first inning and added two more in the second to jump out to an early 5-0 lead.

The Poets battled back for four runs in the bottom of the third, cutting their deficiet to 5-4. But Friends tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth to claim the win.

The Quakers get superb pitching from junior Hunter Duke, who tossed a six-hit complete game.  Senior catcher Jon Loewenberg went 3 for 5 with two RBI and freshman Eamon Duke was 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Senior Josh Mandell and freshman Will Frost both contributed two hits.
