Sims scores 24 to propel the Cavs to success in their season opener
The Archbishop Spalding girls basketball team opened its 2019-2020 season on Tuesday with a impressive non-league IAAM victory over Glenelg Country, downing the Dragons on the road in Ellicott City, 68-46.
Freshman Kamari Sims had a sensational start to her high school career, leading all scorers with 24 and adding five assists in the victory. Spalding benefited from a 21-6 start in the opening quarter and the Cavs cruised from there.
Terra Dzambo also had a huge game, posting a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Farrah Peterein helped Spalding control the glass with eight rebounds.
Glenelg Country is now 1-1 after opening its IAAM B Conference schedule with a 48-33 win over Maryvale Prep last week. Caroline Haynes led the Dragons with a team high 15 points and Cydney Lisk added 11.
Spalding will play another non-league road game at New Hope Academy on Thursday before getting its IAAM A Conference schedule underway on Friday with a home game against IND.
