Iluyomade and Manu score for the Cavaliers

The top-ranked Archbishop Spalding girls soccer team, which has yet to yield a goal in three games, improved to 2-0-1, Tuesday, as the Cavaliers scored a 2-0 IAAM non-league win over Severn School, at Spalding.

The game was scoreless for the first 30 minutes, but Spalding broke on top, in the 31st minute, when Jessica Zimmerman sloted a thru ball from midfield. Fifi Iluyomade ran onto the ball and finished with a low shot past the goalkeeper.

The Spalding lead doubled in the 43rd minute when Asiah Manu scored with an assist from Lauren Korsnick. Korsnick drove hard down the sideline, turned the corner and fed Manu on the front post, and she knocked it in.

Spalding outshot Severn 26-11 and put 15 on goal, compared to just nine for the Admirals.

Jillian Savageau finished with eight saves in the Cavalier’s net to earn the shutout.

Over the weekend, the Cavaliers played Severna Park to a 0-0 draw before defeating No. 11 Arundel, 3-0. Severn fell to 1-2 with the loss.
