Former MIAA basketball stars Buzz Anthony (Archbishop Spalding) and Miles Mallory (St. Vincent Pallotti) are enjoying quite a week.
On Sunday, their Randolph-Macon University basketball team defeated Elmhurst University, 75-45, in the NCAA Division III national championship game in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Anthony scored 14 points in the game and was named the Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Mallory also reached double-digits in the contest with 10 points and added nine rebounds and three blocks.
Mallory, a junior, now has 1,015 career points. This season he blocked 90 shots to give him 189 for his career. Both marks are school records. Anthony, a senior, upped his career point total to 1,988, which is third in program history. He also finished career with school records for assists (798) and steals (256).
On Monday, Anthony was named a 1st-team All-American by D3Hoops.com and Mallory was named to the 2nd-team.
