Morgan Strennen got it done at the plate Thursday as No. 19  Severna Park edged past No. 7 Franklin, 1-0, in a non-league battle in Anne Arundel County.

Strennen accounted for the game’s only run with a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, scoring Paige Briganti. Behind the plate, she helped Clare Hofstedt pitch a complete game one-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks for the Falcons (7-3 overall).

Hofstedt outdueled Franklin ace Mary Sobota, who pitched a three-hitter and struck out six. Mary Sobota allowed only a single to Grayson Metzger until the sixth when Briganti led off with a bunt single.

Tory Sobota accounted for the only hit off of Hofstedt. Thursday’s thrilling match will get both squads ready for tournament action Saturday.

Franklin (7-2) will host its tourney in Reisterstown. The Indians will play No. 16 Marriotts Ridge in the opening round. No. 9 Lansdowne and Arundel meet in the other opening round match.

Severna Park will be a part of an impressive field at the Cavalier Classic at Randazzo Park in Severn. The Falcons play 14th ranked Glenelg at 11 a.m. followed with 3 p.m. match against three-time defending Class 3A state champ Northern from Calvert County, ranked No. 1 in the Washington area.
