No. 1 Poly routs Arizona’s Millennium behind Lewis

Poly’s Justin Lewis goes up for two of his 21 points during Sunday’s consolation semifinal at the Beach Ball Classic. The No. 1 Engineers won 71-51 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center in South Carolina.

Marquette University recruit Justin Lewis posted 21 points and 10 rebounds, and senior Brandon Murray added 19 as top-ranked Poly High defeated Arizona’s Millennium in the consolation semifinals at the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The three-time defending Class 3A state champs from Baltimore City led by as many as 26 points against last season’s Arizona Class 5A state finalists. Poly (6-1 overall) will play Nevada’s Coronado for fifth-place Tuesday afternoon.

The Engineers, who lost St. John’s College (D.C.) in Saturday’s quarterfinals, never trailed after Murray’s 3-pointer with less than 11 minutes left in the first half. Poly went on a 11-0 run to secure an 18-8 lead en route to a 35-22 halftime advantage.

A dunk by Murray made it 64-38 with six minutes left in regulation. Rahim Ali added 16 points and four assists. Murray and Lewis each finished with five assists.
