MIAA A champs McDonogh finishes where it started; state champ Southern enters

by Derek Toney

It wasn’t a wire-to-wire run for McDonogh School this spring, but the Owings Mills private school is No. 1 in the final VSN Boys Lacrosse Top 20 poll of the spring.

The Eagles, the preseason No. 1 regained the top ranking after winning the MIAA A Conference championship. St. Mary’s, Boys’ Latin School, Calvert Hall College and St. Paul’s School complete the Top 5.

Archbishop Spalding leads off the second 5 followed by Loyola Blakefield, Severn School, Severna Park and Broadneck. Severna Park won its sixth straight state public crown with a 9-6 victory over 12th-ranked Mount Hebron in the 3A final.

Gilman School is 11th with Mount Hebron, state semifinalists Catonsville (4A) and Hereford (2A), and Towson inside the Top 15.

MIAA B Conference champ Archbishop Curley is 16th followed by Southern, which won the 1A state public crown at Loyola University’s Ridley Athletic Complex. Fallston, John Carroll School, and Dulaney complete the final Top 20.
