Dunbar fell behind in the opening quarter of its 2010 homecoming game against Mervo Friday afternoon, but the No. 15 Poets stormed back and rolled to a 44-7 decision in a Baltimore City Division I contest.

The Poets scored the final 24 points of the first half to take command. Mervo (0-4, 0-3 Division I) had the early advantage, thanks to a two-yard quarterback sneak by Andrew Gamble to complete a 60-yard drive.

Dunbar (3-1 overall, 2-1 Division I) dominated at the line of the scrimmage in the second half as Jaquan Holt, Terrance Williams,Coleman Blackston and Deontay McManus scored touchdowns for the Poets. McManus, a junior, returned two punts for touchdowns.

Leo Eades added a 50-yard interception return for a score. The Poets will take on unbeaten and No. 16 City College next weekend at Poly’s Lumsden-Scott Stadium. Mervo hosts Digital Harbor at Modell Field.
