Lions suffer first loss of the year against PA power in Governor’s Challenge
It took three overtimes, but somebody finally hung the first loss of the season on No. 5 Dulaney, Friday at the Governor’s Challenge Showcase Bracket in Salisbury, as the Lions fell to Neuman-Goretti (PA), 83-78.
Dulaney (5-1), which had rallied to defeat St. George’s Tech (DE) on Thursday, also at the Governor’s Challenge, outscored Nueman-Goretti 21-11 in the fourth quarter on Friday to force over time after falling behind 36-20 at the half.
The teams were tied 66-66 after the first OT and 74-74 after the second.
Ryan Conway and Cameron Byers each scored 19 points for Dulaney, while Isaiah Cornish netted 17 and Che Evans, Jr. had 15. Byers, a transfer from John Carroll, and Evans both had 10 rebounds to complete double-doubles.
Conway scored 30 points in Thursday’s win over St. George’s.
Ja’cor Smith scored a game-high 24 points to pace Neuman-Goretti and Chris Ings scored 20 points for the winners.
