The Glenelg Country School girls’ tennis team finished their conference play at the Valleybrook Country Club against Baltimore Lutheran on Wednesday.  The match had been rained out twice before and was originally to be played on September 30.

No. 1 Doubles team of Neha Jhaveri and Allie Duncan went down quickly but came back and played very well for the rest of the match.  The pair managed to even the score at one set apiece but lost in a very close tiebreaker for the third set since the overall score had already been decided in the Dragons’ favor.

Their score was a loss, 4-6, 6-1, (10-8).

The rest of the team played very well, all coming through with wins. Danni Weiner (# 1 Singles) won her match 6-3, 6-2.  She evens her overall record to 3-3.  Maddy Taylor (# 2 Singles) dominated her match, earning her first shutout of the season 6-0, 6-0.  Her record stands at an impressive 5-1 for the season.

Hanah Tanenholtz and Nikki Reisher (# 2 Doubles) kept up their improving play and won easily 6-0, 6-1.  Katie Modrow and Catherine Kleindienst (# 3 Doubles) won easily by the identical score.  The # 3 Doubles team managed to even their overall record (3-3) even with a juggling lineup.

The team finishes their 2010 regular season with a record of 3-3. This is the first time in three years that the team has managed to have a winning percentage of 0.500 or above.  However, there will be holes to fill next year as two of our top four players are graduating, namely, Danni Weiner and Neha Jhaveri.

Glenelg will close out the season when it participates in the McDonogh Individual Tournament, which begins Monday, October 18.
