The Loyola Blakefield football team gained much local respect after its strong showing against DeMatha last week in the I-95 Kickoff Classic. On Friday the Dons captured something they craved even more – a victory.
Playing at home against Fork Union Military Academy, the No. 9 Dons stunned Fork Union when quarterback Mike Fafaul took off for a 75 yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage.
Fafaul then tossed touchdown passes of 50 and 16 yards to Jordan Floyd and Deemer Class, respectively, and the Dons led 21-0 before the game was even seven minutes old.
Fork Union showed some fight, however, as Andre Parker scored on a 100 yard kickoff return and Cameron Grice hauled in a 73 yard touchdown pass from Christian Backenberg, to pull the Cadets within 21-13, as the high scoring first quarter concluded.
In the second quarter, Loyola continued to light up the scoreboard, outscoring Fork Union 28-7 to take command.
Class scored on a 20 yard run and capped the half with a 41 yard TD reception from Fafaul. In between Ryan Young and Tamar Boone both found paydirt for the Dons with one yard runs.
Ryan Black scored on a 16 yard run in the third quarter to move Loyola in front 56-20, before Fork Union added a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to set the final score.
Loyola continues on with its tough schedule next Friday, as it visits No. 10 Archbishop Spalding for a 7:00 p.m. battle.
