The 11th-ranked Perry Hall girls soccer team gained a measure of revenge for its loss, on penalty kicks, to Sparrows Point in the 2015 Baltimore County championship game, Friday, when the Gators rose up and knocked off the third-ranked Pointers, 2-1, in overtime, ending Sparrows Point’s 36-game winning streak.
Sophomore Kara Dietrich got the golden goal, less than four minutes into the first overtime session, to deliver the victory in this Baltimore County contest at Perry Hall.
Perry Hall (4-1 overall), after a scoreless first half, put pressure on Sparrows Point when Phoebe Canoles, with an assist from Rachel Bohli, broke the ice with the game’s first goal.
It stayed that way until the final three minutes of the contest, when the Pointers (3-1) got the equalizer from Alayna Jerome. The reprieve, however, proved to be only temporary thanks to Dietrich’s overtime heroics.
