Geho scores the Golden Goal with just 23 seconds left

In wild back-and-forth encounter, No. 4 Archbishop Curley’s Brady Geho scored a Gold Goal with just 23 seconds to play in the second overtime, as the host Friars pulled out a 4-3 MIAA A Conference soccer victory over No. 13 Mount St. Joseph.

In a last offensive rush, Curley (2-2) played the ball out wide to right to senior Nick Henderson. As the defense converged, Henderson hit a slow roller back to the center of the box where Geho found himself wide open and fired a shot that was deflected into the back of the net off the hand of the St. Joe goalkeeper.

In the opening minutes of the contest, Eli Becker gave the Gaels a 1-0 lead when he flicked home a close shot, and the Gaels carried that lead all the way to inremission.

Nick Henderson tied it for Curley, early in the second, when powered a header in from Ricky Schissler’s corner kick. Brand Flynn, however, got the advantage back for St. Joe (0-4-2) when he drilled a free kick into the right upper 90.

Curley tied it again when junior Camden Keller headed home the rebound of his own shot from close range and the Friars took their first lead when Phillipe Oliveira made a beautiful cross to senior Alex Krisher who finished for the 3-2 lead.

It appeared that was the way the game would finish until Flynn delivered another brilliant free kick into the box where Andre Isreal won the header and launched it into the goal. The second overtime also went down to the wire before Geho elevated the Friars to victory.
