Archbishop Curely’s defense has been a strength thus far in 2010 and, on Friday afternoon, the Friars got their offense in high gear as the Friars pounded St. Frances, 49-0, in their home opener.

Curley improved to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the MIAA B Conference as it received contributions from a variety of sources.

Joe Evans opened the scoring with a 31 yard touchdown run and Kenny Thomas followed with a one yard score, later in the opening quarter.  In the second quarter, quarterback Luke Stidham tossed TD passes of 15 and 25 yards to Antond McDonald and Eric Price, respectively, and Demonye Womack powered in from three yards out.

After a scoreless third quarter, Curley capped the scoring with a nine yard run from Avery Williams and two yard scoring run from Dominic Hezikiah.  In addition, Nick Budnichuk was a perfect 7-for-7 on extra-point attempts.

Curley gained 192 yard rushing, but spread the wealth well, as six backs had 25 yards or more.

Defensively, James Bost and Xavier Banks each came up with interception, with Banks returning his 65 yards to setup a score.
