St. John’s Catholic Prep was coming off of consecutive narrow losses, to John Carroll and Boys’ Latin, respectively, but the Vikings ran into a buzz saw on Friday evening when Archbishop Curley paid a visit to McCurdy Field for a MIAA B Conference football battle, and administered a 54-6 thumping to the Vikes.
Curley grabbed a 7-0 first quarter lead on a one yard run by Nick D’Avanzo and then scored the first 26 points of the second quarter to build a 33-0 lead. St. John’s Lamont Williams scored on a 55 yard fumble return, just prior to halftime, to put the Vikings on the board, but St. John’s would not score again.
Senior Joe Evans opened the second quarter scoring with a pair of touchdown runs and then quarterback Luke Stidham tossed a 19 yard TD pass to Erice Price before scoring a one yard run.
In the third quarter, Avery Williams added a seven yard touchdown run for the Friars and D’Avanzo score again on a 19 yard run. Senior Domanya Womack capped the scoring with a 65 touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Curley improved to 3-1 in the B Conference and is now 4-1 overall. St. John’s is 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the league. Next week, Curley will be at home for a huge game with Archbishop Spalding, as the Friars attempt to remain in the hunt for the MIAA B Conference championship game. St. John’s will remain at home to host Severn.
