Boys’ Latin, Archbishop Curley and Archbishop Spalding ended up 1-1 in head-to-head competition (Boys’ Latin defeated Curley 21-7; Curley knocked off Spalding, 17-7; Spalding defeated Boys’ Latin, 39-29), forcing a three-team coin flip.
Spalding won the coin flip to advance to the finals, leaving Curley and Boys’ Latin to vie on the field for the other spot. Both teams won their regular season finale last weekend.
Curley (8-2) needed a Luke Stidham 50-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Williams to overcome John Carroll, 21-14, in Bel Air. The Friars had a 13-0 advantage before the Patriots rallied to a 14-13 lead.
Boys’ Latin (7-2) got 138 yards rushing from Brandon Barnes and a 96-yard kickoff return from Chris Rubino in a 28-12 decision over St. Paul’s School. Brandon Cherry scored on a three-yard touchdown run.
In week two, Boys’ Latin defeated the Friars, 21-7, on Lake Avenue, putting the game away with a 99-yard drive capped by a 43-yard touchdown pass from Brett Radcliffe to Alec Whitman.
