Booker and Knoble homer for Friars
Reigning MIAA A Conference baseball champion Archbishop Curley opened its 2019 league schedule at home on Monday, and the Friars picked up a 10-0 win over St. Mary’s in six innings.
Curley (2-1 overall) jumped on top with three runs in the bottom of the first and then took control with five runs in the second. The Friars then invoked the run-rule with single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
Colton Knoble had a big day for the Friars, collecting two hits, including a home run, and driving in four runs and scoring two. His single in the sixth drove in the final run to bring the game to a close.
Derrick Booker added a two-run home run for Curley and Gavin Evans also had two hits, including a double, and a RBI.
Four Curley pitchers combined on the shutout, with Travis Nale going the first four innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five to earn the victory.
Tyler Fowler had two hits to lead St. Mary’s.
