Seahawks look to continue 2018 momentum
With practice for the 2019 high school football season underway, Varsity Sports Network’s Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.
South River Seahawks
2018 record: 7-5 (Class 4A East Region finalist)
Overview: The Seahawks lost to eventual state 4A finalist North Point in the East final after upsetting Anne Arundel County champ and previously undefeated Broadneck in the opening round. The Edgewater school brings back a dynamic offense with Baltimore Touchdown Club Super 22 receiver Sean Leonard, senior quarterback David Foust and senior wideouts Shaun Hemphill and Jamison Gaskins.
Toughest 2019 opponent: Broadneck. The Seahawks ended the Anne Arundel champs’ perfect season in the East Region semifinals last season. The Cape St. Claire school returns Baltimore Touchdown Club Super 22 performers Andre Woods (wide receiver) and Ethan Foreman (offensive line), and sophomore quarterback Drew Ehrlich.
Most intriguing 2019 opponent: Arundel. The Wildcats should again contend for the Anne Arundel title. The Gambrills school returns arguably the league’s premier offensive player in senior quarterback Austin Slye along with BTC Super 22 running back Jordan Andrews.
