Panthers look to get back on playoff prowl
With practice for the 2019 high school football season underway, Varsity Sports Network’s Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.
2018 record: 7-5 (Class 1A East Region finalist)
Overview: The Panthers lost to UCBAC Chesapeake rival Havre de Grace in the 1A East final. The Cecil County school returns quarterback Tyler Nasuta, wide receiver Emarion Hampton and defensive back Phoenix Phillips.
Toughest 2019 opponent: Havre de Grace. The Warriors defeated Perryville twice last season, capped with a 35-28 win in the 1A East final. Senior Brandon Rabbitt is set to assume quarterback duties with Tanner Thompson (line), Tom Meehan (wide receiver/defensive back) and Savion Johnson (running back/linebacker) also back for the Harford County school.
Most intriguing 2019 opponent: Edgewood. The Rams won the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference Chesapeake title last season before losing in the 3A North semifinals. Senior Keyon Brown (wide receiver/defensive back) and junior linebacker Mason Putney will be Edgewood’s main threats.
