With practice for the 2019 high school football season a few weeks away, Varsity Sports Network’s Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.

Arundel Wildcats

2018 record: 9-2 (Class 4A East Region semifinalist)

Overview: The Wildcats reached postseason play under first-year coach Jack Walsh. The Anne Arundel County school returns arguably the league’s premier offensive player in senior quarterback Austin Slye along with senior back Jordan Andrews.

Toughest 2019 opponent: North Point. The Southern Maryland school reached the 4A state title game last year, starting with a 43-13 win over Arundel in the East Region semifinals. Asa Williams will be back at quarterback for the Eagles, who will bring a 27-game regular season winning streak into 2019.

Most intriguing 2019 opponent: Broadneck. The Bruins won the Anne Arundel County championship for the second straight season last fall, but was upset by South River in the 4A East Region semifinals. The Cape St. Claire school will be led by all-league and Baltimore Touchdown Club Super 22 selection Andre Woods and sophomore quarterback Josh Ehrlich.
