Westminster Owls

2017 record: 10-2 (Class 3A West Region finalist)

2017 review: The Owls won the Carroll County Athletic League championship before falling to eventual 3A state champ Linganore in the West Region final. Westminster returns 29 letter winners including all-Carroll selections Jaden Lewis (running back), Jacob Busic (defensive line), Brandon Allen and Tavian Montgomery (defensive backs) and Evan Warren (kicker).

2018 opponents’ win/loss record (from 2017): 55-50 (.524)

Toughest 2018 opponent: Linganore. The Owls’ only two 2017 losses were at the hands of the Frederick County power including a 16-14 decision in the 3A West final. The defending state champ Lancers (No. 14 in final state media Top 25 poll last fall) have 27 letter winners back including senior quarterback Ryan Leyh and running back Davon Butler.

Most intriguing 2018 opponent: Urbana. The Hawks from Frederick County provided Westminster its toughest challenge, outside of Linganore, last season. The regular season opener marks the return of former Owls coach Brad Wilson, who won four league titles and guided them to the 2005 3A state final and 2014 4A state semifinals in 11 seasons before stepping down after the 2015 season.

By a number: 20. Point difference between Westminster’s regular season loss (50-28) to Linganore and loss in region playoffs last fall.
