by Derek Toney
With practice for the 2018 high school football season underway, Varsity Sports Network’s Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.
2017 record: 8-4 (Class 2A North Region finalist)
2017 review: The Bulls reached the 2A North final and finishing second in the Baltimore County 2A/1A league. Seniors Joe Arigbamu (running back/defensive back) and linemen James Crane, Sean Roeper, Zach Barnard and Jack Marshall are among the returnees in 2018.
2018 opponents’ win/loss record (from 2017): 46-55 (.455)
Toughest 2018 opponent: Overlea. The Falcons accounted for one of Hereford’s two league losses last fall (Overlea won in OT), and the last two meetings have been decided by a total of 14 points. Overlea will have back one of the league’s top players in senior cornerback/athlete Jairus Cannon.
Most intriguing 2018 opponent: Chesapeake-Baltimore County. The Bayhawks won the 2A/1A league championship and reached postseason play for the first time sine 2011. Damein Coleman, a consensus all-league defensive back, senior quarterback Daniel Meredith and senior linemen Lance Askins, are among the key returning letter winners in 2018.
