With practice for the 2018 high school football season underway, Varsity Sports Network’s Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.

Harford Tech Cobras 

2017 record: 12-1 (Class 2A state semifinalist)

2017 review: The Cobras were the area’s biggest surprise last season with an undefeated regular season and first state semifinal. Harford Tech will try for a repeat as UCBAC Susquehanna champions in 2018 with more than 30 letter winners back including all-Susquehanna performers Jalen Dangerfield (running back), Charles Brown (defenisve line) and defensive backs Laday Cooper and Jeremiah Minter.

2018 opponents’ win/loss record (from 2017): 35-57 (.380)

Toughest 2018 opponent: North East. The Indians enjoyed a turnaround in 2017, going from 0-10 to 6-4. The Cecil County school, which gave the Cobras their closest match in Susquehanna play (28-6), returns all-Cecil defenders Justin Sullivan (linebacker) and Matt Disciullo (line) and all-purpose performer Jalen Giles.

Most intriguing 2018 opponent: C. Milton Wright.T he Mustangs returned to postseason play after winning four games in 2016, and finished second in the UCBAC Chesapeake. Brent Moody, a second-team Chesapeake defensive back, highlights 20 returning letter winners for the Harford County school.

By a number: 7. Win improvement from 2016 to 2017 by Harford Tech.
