Breakdown of Red Storm schedule

Senior Trejour Owens hopes to lead Edmondson back to the Class 2A state playoffs this fall. The Red Storm went 7-4 last season.

With practice for the 2018 high school football season a few weeks away, Varsity Sports Network’s Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.

Edmondson Red Storm

2017 record: 7-4 (Class 2A North Region semifinalist)

2017 review: The Red Storm reached the state playoffs for a seventh straight season while placing third in the Baltimore City League Division I. The west Baltimore school is slated to have nearly 20 letter winners back for 2018, including senior quarterback Teon Gardner, running back/defensive back Kevin Martin and linebacker Trejour Owens.

2018 opponents’ win/loss record (from 2017): 51-50 (.505)

Toughest 2018 opponent: Dunbar. The Poets won the 1A state championship last season (area-best 10th overall), and the City League Division I crown. The east Baltimore school have 30 letter winners scheduled back, including seniors Andre Brandon (running back/defensive back), Raekwon Walker (wide receiver/defensive back), Doshon Davis (wide receiver/defensive back) and junior defensive end Deon Crews-Harris.

Most intriguing 2018 opponent: Mervo. The Mustangs won three straight City League Division I crowns from 2014 to 2016, but finished second and missed postseason play last year. The Hillen Road school will arguably have the league’s best player in wide receiver/defensive back Terry Jones, who’s committed to Old Dominion University.

By a number: 3. Consecutive losses ending Edmondson’s 2017 season.
