Breakdown of Elks’ schedule
With practice for the 2018 high school football season a few weeks away, Varsity Sports Network’s Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.
2017 record: 8-3 (Class 2A East Region semifinalist)
2017 review: The Elks reached postseason play for the second straight season and tied for second in the UCBAC Chesapeake. The Cecil County school is slated to return more than 30 letter winners for 2018, led by all-Chesapeake linebackers Tashawn Watters and Darnell Coursey, and senior wideout Dah’mear Triplett.
2018 opponents’ win/loss record (from 2017): 55-53 (.509)
Toughest 2018 opponent: Havre de Grace. The Warriors won the UCBAC Chesapeake title and reached the Class 1A state semifinals last fall. The Harford County school will have back all-Chesapeake first-team quarterback Alex Gresock, and wide receiver/defensive backs Jordan White and Christian Penrow.
Most intriguing 2018 opponent: Edgewood. The Rams gained their first state postseason victory and reached 3A North final. The Harford County school returns 21 letter winners in 2018 including two of the area’s best players in University of Maryland commit Deonte Banks (wide receiver/defensive back), and senior quarterback Antwan Banks.
