Breakdown of the Wildcats’ schedule
With practice for the 2018 high school football season a few weeks away, Varsity Sports Network’s Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.
2017 record: 8-3 (Class 4A East Region semifinalist)
2017 review: The Wildcats returned to postseason play (previous appearance 2014), but legendary coach Chuck Markiewicz stepped down after 18 seasons (31 total). Longtime assistant Jack Walsh has the reigns and 25 letterwinners scheduled back, led by all-Anne Arundel linebacker Gereme Spraggins.
2018 opponents’ win/loss record (from 2017): 56-48 (.538)
Toughest 2018 opponent: Broadneck. The Bruins won the Anne Arundel County title last fall and reached the 4A East Region final. The Cape St. Claire school should be the early line favorite in 2018 with Boston College commit Ethon Williams back, along with running back Jason Caramo and several key linemen.
Most intriguing 2018 opponent: Old Mill. The Patriots missed the state playoffs for the first time since 1998 last season. The Millersville school, led by mighty-mite senior running back Ryheam Tull, will be highly motivated to start another streak.
