With less than two weeks before the start of practice for the 2014 high school football season, Varsity Sports Network’s Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.
2013 record: 12-2 (Class 3A state champions)
2013 review: The Indians won their first state championship, the first Baltimore County team since 2009 (Eastern Tech) to win a crown. The Reisterstown school is scheduled to return 16 starters among 36 letterwinners this coming season, led by linemen Patrick Allen, arguably the state’s top recruit, and West Virginia University commits Jacquez and Jordan Adams.
2014 opponents’ win/loss record (from 2013): 54-52 (.509)
Toughest 2014 opponent: Perry Hall. The Gators nearly reached the 4A state semifinals (lost in OT in North Region finals) and won the Baltimore County Division I crown. The Ebenezer Road school is scheduled to return 25 letterwinners including running back Mike Morris, who was an all-Baltimore County Coaches’ first-team pick last fall.
Most intriguing 2014 opponent: Calvert Hall College. After a disappointing showing, the MIAA A Conference squad is looking for a big rebound this fall. The Cardinals have 30 letterwinners scheduled back, led by Wake Forest University commit and defensive back Dionte Austin.
