The Fallston Cougars started the 2011 season off with a strong win, Tuesday, using a three-run second inning to cruise past the South River Seahawks, 4-1.
While the three runs in the second would have been enough to top South River’s run in the third, the Cougars added a run in the seventh inning, capitalizing on Josh Walker’s two-run single in the second and Brandon Del Pilar’s two-for-four night to cap the Fallston offense.
John Hetterman pitched four innings for the Cougars, allowing only one run in his first victory of 2011, while Kyle McCafferty pitched three scoreless innings to pick up the save.
South River was led at the plate by Vertucci and Gratz, as Vertucci went two-for-four with an RBI and Gratz finished two-for-three with a triple, also scoring the team’s run.
Fallston’s next game comes against Patterson Mill, Monday, as South River prepares for a Wednesday showdown with Franklin.
