Trailing 15 points with three matches to go, there is really only one thing to do if you want to win; pin out.
And that is exactly what the Wilde Lake Wildecats did, Monday night, seeing their final three wrestlers stick their opponents to a 39-36 win over Chesapeake-AA.
The two teams swapped falls throughout the match, but Chesapeake 171-pounder Tom Reed’s fall to set up a 15-point lead was a crucial pin for his team, setting a tough gauntlet for the Wildecats to run through.
But the Cats did just that, seeing A.J. Harris (189), Zathy Ndiang (215) and Dwight Ingram (285) all produce six-point falls to record the team win.
Following Harris’ 45 second fall and Ndiang’s fall five seconds faster, Ingram only needed to earn a decision to tie and work a major decision for the win, but he stormed out to the mat and stuck his opponent in just 57 seconds.
The win couldn’t have been accomplished if the rest of the team didn’t keep the Cats in the matches prior to the streak of pins, including Eathan Eckley’s injury default win at 12, Ethan Trinh’s fall at 130, a Marcus Coffield decision at 145 and Josh Bittner’s fall at 160.
Chesapeake earned five falls in the near win, coming from Kyle Giddings (125), Alex Rice (135), Stephen Spinnenweber (140), Austin Karls (152) and Reed at 171, and decisions from Jeremy and Cody Morrow at 103 and 119, respectively.
The Wildecats next take to the Butch Keysar Dual Meet Tournament this weekend, hosted by North County.
