Calvert Hall and Loyola could be playing checkers and the atmosphere would be just as charged as is it on Thanksgiving Day when the Dons and the Cardinals play football at M&T Bank Stadium. The gym was crowded on Friday afternoon at Blakefield as Loyola hosted an MIAA A Conference volleyball battle between the arch-rivals.
The defending conference champion Cardinals were tested by the Dons, but they came on strong at the end of each game to sweep the set 25-20, 25-23, 25-20.
The lead changed hands numerous times throughout the day, and game two was tied five different times before the Hall pulled it out.
The Cards won game one 25-20, after Loyola lead 19-18 and game two was tied 22-22 before the Hall got the win.
Hall coach Anthony Cammarata said it was all about passing.
“Our passing was amazing the entire day, especially Dan Binette,” said Cammarata. “Our passing and our digs were the keys to the win.”
Tyler Littleton, who had 30 assists lauded Matt Bosse and Kevin Beres. Beres had 10 kills and four blocks, and Bosse had six kills.
“It was a great game with perfect passing, especially from Binette,” said Littleton.
Beres said that Loyola was real good. We were lucky to come out 3-0.
Bosse agreed.
“Dave Marsh is a very good setter and Ryan Quesenberry is a very good hitter,” said Bosse. “We beat a very, very good team today,”
