Gilman School football coach Biff Poggi has said often how much quarterback Darius Jennings has meant, on and off field for the Greyhound program. Thursday evening, Poggi will get a final opportunity to coach him.
Poggi will guide the South team in the inaugural Chesapeake Bowl All-Star game at Towson University’s Unitas Stadium. The senior contest feature standouts from Maryland, the District, Virginia and West Virginia against Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania representing the North. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Jennings, the unanimous top offensive performer in the area and the state, is one of the seven area performers on the South roster. Jennings’ teammate, Hunter Goodwin, who’s verbally committed to Wake Forest University, will be on the offensive line along with Ben Curtis of MIAA A champ Calvert Hall College. Boys’ Latin’s Marco Jones, a Virginia commit, will be on the defensive line with Meade’s Keron Costen in the defensive backfield.
Old Mill’s Demond Brown and Gunnar Waldt of St. Paul’s School are in the South backfield with Jennings. Waldt is verbally committed to Bryant University.
