City College High senior shooting guard Nick Faust has announced his verbal commitment to play college basketball for the University of Maryland.

Faust, who made the announcement live on ESPNU on Thursday afternoon, rose to the nation’s No. 9 shooting guard after an incredible summer run with the Baltimore Elite AAU squad.

“It felt like a second home.  I had great relationships with the coaches,” said Faust of Maryland during his announcement.  “It is the best place for me to mature on and off the court.”

Faust, who also predicted the Terps would win a national championship during his College Park career, said Maryland’s style of play suited him best.

“The flex offense best fits my style and I can play very well in the system,” added the Knight senior.

Faust averaged over 20 points per game, leading City to its second consecutive Class 2A state championship last winter.

Prior to selecting Maryland, Faust had narrowed his decision down to Maryland, Marquette, Villanova, Florida State and Oregon State.

Varsity Sports Network’s Derek Toney caught up with Faust Thursday evening after celebrating his decision with his family. Click the Related Videos Tab for the interview.
