When: Saturday, noon
Where: M&T Bank Stadium
Outlook: The annual contest between arch-rivals City and Poly enters its 122nd edition on Saturday. The Engineers, who hold the overall series lead with a 60-55-6 mark, must win if they have any hopes of a playoff berth.
Poly (5-2 Baltimore City Division I) currently sits in fifth place in the Class 3A North Regional standings. The Engineers are coming off a 22-0 loss to Dunbar last week and look to get back on track with the school’s third straight win over the Knights. QB Darrell Milburn and RBs Gabriel Ali-El and Jamal Chappell will be counted on.
City (5-2 in league) won three straight games against Poly from 2005-07 before the dropping the last two decisions. The Knights knocked off Edmondson, 26-16, last week but a point of concern for them is an injury to QB Steffin Wilkens, who is questionable for the game. FB Tre James and RB Tyrell Siler-Moore will have to pick up the slack if Wilkens sits out.
Last year, Poly defeated City 26-20 in overtime. After QB Adrian Coxson (Maryland) raced 92-yards for a score to force overtime, the Knights couldn’t captilize. A fumble deep inside of its own territory doomed City and Engineers RB Ali-El ran for a nine-yard score to close out the game. Ali-El ran for 162 yards in the game.
