Mike Cheatham (pictured left) scored 23 points and senior guard Nick Faust contributed 13 points, leading No. 6 City College to a 59-41 victory over Douglass in a Class 2A North Region quarterfinal match on The Alameda Monday afternoon.
The Knights (15-8 overall) received 10 points each from Eric Greer and Rashawn Rasheed en route to their 11th straight state postseason triumph. The two-time defending 2A state champs will visit top-seed and No. 7 Edmondson in the region semifinals Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. at Morgan State University’s Hill Field House.
Leading 39-32, City outscored the Ducks (14-7), 20-9, in the fourth period. The Knights defeated Douglass during the regular season, 66-30.
Davon Vennie scored 16 points for the Ducks, and senior guard Dwayne Brewer finished with 12.
City will rematch with Red Storm, which it defeated for the region crown last season at City. The Knights won the regular season matchup, 64-52.
