Chapelgate Christian Academy’s boys basketball team picked up a nice win Friday night, as it defeated Surrattsville, 56-52, in the opening round of the Calvert School Christmas Tournament.

Surrattsville, ranked No. 20 in the Washington area by Capital Hoops was the defending tournament champion, but Chapelgate built a seven point halftime lead, survived a strong third quarter by Surrattsville, and closed out the win down the stretch.

Three Jackets (9-2) scored in double figures with Winfield Taylor leading the group with 18 points.  Nate Frierson scored a dozen points and dished five assists and Matt Phillips add 11 points.  Chika Obi was the leader on the glass, collecting 13 rebounds and blocking three shots, while Chisom Uzosike added nine points.

Raymond Baldwin scored 11 points to lead Surrattsville (6-1), which lost for the first time this year.

Chapelgate will play host Calvert on Wednesday for the championship.
