Only one thing could stop the offenses of host Chapelgate Christian and Mount Carmel’s softball teams on Tuesday afternoon – the sun.
After three hours, the teams combined for 59 runs through five innings before the sun set. The game was called due to darkness.
The Yellowjackets (1-0 overall and in IAAM C Conference), hosting their first ever home game on campus, defeated the Cougars, 31-28.
The two young teams went back and forth before Chapelgate scored 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Yellowjackets were led by senior Dana Tanner, who went 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and 9 RBI.
Junior Megan Schoepfer had five RBI, going 2-for-3 day with three walks.
