Don’t look now, but it’s basketball season.

Most schools won’t tip-off their season until after the Thanksgiving holiday, but defending MIAA C Conference basketball champion Chapelgate Christian got an early start, Tuesday, as it defeated Cristo Rey, 62-42, in the opening round of the Arlington Baptist Invitational.

Four Yellowjackets scored in double figures with Matt Phillips netting a game-high 16.  Winfield Taylor dominated the inside, scoring 11 points and grabbing 19 rebounds.

In addition, Nate Frierson scored 13 for Chapelgate and Chisom Uzosike finished with 11.

Jordan Birden and Omari Mitchell combined for 16 points to lead Cristo Rey.
