The IAAM A Conference volleyball playoffs got underway on Friday afternoon and it was Chapelgate Christian and McDonogh which came up with first round victories to move into Tuesday’s semifinals.

McDonogh, the seventh seed, knocked off 10th-seeded St. Mary’s, 3-1.  The Eagles impressed with wins of 25-13 and 25-9 in the first two games, before the Saints got on the board with a 25-21 victory.  McDonogh then closed out the match with a 25-11 win in the fourth set.

McDonogh travel to Anne Arundel County of Tuesday in search of an upset, as it faces second-seeded Archbishop Spalding.

Chapelgate, the eighth seed, will face top-seeded Mount de Sales, Tuesday in Catonsville, after eliminating ninth-seeded St. Vincent Pallotti, 25-19, 25-20, 25-21.

Tuesday’s other A Conference quarterfinal matches feature fifth-seeded Notre Dame Prep at fourth-seeded Seton Keough and sixth-seeded Bryn Mawr at third-seeded St. Paul’s School for Girls.
